Mark is a registered Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine Practitioner with AHPRA’s CMRB and AACMA. He completed his internship at Shu Guan Hospital, Shanghai, China, and graduated with a double degree from Victoria University in 2008.
In addition, he returned to China once again, in 2017, to study at the renowned Beijing University of TCM, as part of the two-week Pearls Beijing Study Tour to study under four professors specializing in the Jin and Yuan dynasties (1115–1368 AD), the Jing Fang style of Traditional Chinese herbal medicine flourished with the emergence of four influential schools: Cold and Cooling, Purging the Pathogen, Tonifying Earth, and Nourishing Yin. These schools innovated upon classical formulas from Han-era texts, such as the Shang Han Lun, by modifying them to address contemporary issues like epidemics, dietary deficiencies, and internal imbalances caused by war and social upheaval.
For instance, as part of his quest to gather clinical expertise, he also traveled to New Haven, Connecticut, in 2012 to participate in a 6-day conference at Yale University on Auricular acupuncture for AcuDetox, behavioral problems, and posttraumatic stress.
Dr. Mark Mayes
To illustrate, Mark has built a solid foundation and reputation as a nationally accredited coach in internal martial arts (Tai Chi, Ba Gua Zhang). In 2001, 2003, and 2004 won national competitions in three attempts over four years.
His achievements demonstrate his competence, diligence, and insightful knowledge in the magnum opus of Chinese medicine. Mark was the past Chair of the Victorian state committee of the Australian Acupuncture Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA). In private practice, Mark applies a range of treatments according to the TCM diagnostic approach and integrates them to treat a variety of health conditions.
As a result, these methods are perfect for resolving or managing modern-day stressors leading to difficult-to-treat chronic muscular pain and spasms. Internal medicine is also included in this paradigm, improving conditions such as these. For example, migraine, insomnia, chronic fatigue, anxiety, chest palpitations, depression, respiratory disease, and colds/flu. Gastrointestinal disease, abdominal distension/pain, eczema, urticaria, menopause, PMS, morning sickness, induction of labor, and breech birth.
